We got a call from the Montreal roller derby league one day asking us for a complete re-haul of their Joomla template out of the box website, here's a bit of our process …
research & wireframes
Like every single one of our projects we started by researching our subject & creating some simple wireframes both for the front end users and the back end administrators; making sure that all of the leagues and our goals were met before we started doing any design and coding work
Design process & Special Request
Like every project we had some special request for this site, We built a team slider featuring all of their teams linking to a full fledged team page with individual bios for all the team players and the League's referees; we also implemented a media section featuring videos and various photo galleries all controlled trough the site's EE powered CMS

The MTLRD webstore
The League wanted to us to create a simple webstore that they could hook to their Paypal account, We decided to use the default SCM from ExpressionEngine and modify it to pass in the tee shirt colors and the tee shirt sizes so clients could pick directly from the site.

We divided the store into 4 categories that are easy to maintain as an administrator and easy for the client to jump from one section to another to view what is being offered/

with all the latest news going on with Paypal we were very happy with the choice of E-commerce solution, keeping the client's coast low but maintaining the security needed with ExpressionEngine.

For the fans
Making the site friendlier to the fans was one of the first comments mentioned to us at our first meeting with the Montreal derby league, Being very disapointed with their old dated Joomla template, they wanted something that stood out from all the other templates based league sites out there
Fan section
Fans can easily select their favorite team background up to 8 different backgrounds as well as subscribe to any of their favorite teams news. We also implemented the EE forum module and a blog section with full commenting
Information structure & bonus
We worked very closely with the site's administrator to create an easy to follow & update site and a dedicated member area for the league
